Popular Names for Boys:
Avigail the Baby and Ariel the Baby - these are the power couple of 2022. The most popular names for girls and boys in the past calendar year, within the Jewish sector, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics. Avigail and Ariel - both starting with the first letter in Hebrew, highly favored by Israeli parents in 2022. What else do they like?
Well, similar to the 2021 table results, Israelis still prefer Hebrew names, with a touch of tradition and connection to sources. Avigail and Ariel "outshone" two other favorites this year: Tamar and David, but not by much. The leading names of the past year came in second place, with "Avigail" having about a hundred more girls named than "Tamar," but in the case of "Ariel" and "David," the difference is only seven.
After Avigail and Tamar, we find "Yael" in third place for girls and "Noa" in fourth place. Representing the foreign, as in the previous year, is "Adel," in fifth place. More books will be written about how specifically this name has been adopted by Israeli mothers joyfully for several years now - are they fans of Adele the singer or the famous Adelle in Spilberg? Or perhaps, despite the foreign scent, in Adel there is something Israeli, or at least rolls nicely on the tongue?
After Adel, the list of girls' names includes three girls occupying places 6-8 with microscopic differences between them - "Ayala," "Sarah," and "Libi." In ninth place is Maya, and in tenth place is Rivka, joining Sarah in the quartet.
And what about the boys? After Ariel and David, in third place, we meet another lion - "Levi" (who was in second place in 2021), and let's not forget "Ari" in tenth place. Three majestic lions show that this is probably the animal favored by parents for baby boys in 2022.
In fourth place in the boys' table is the name "Raphael," continuing the genre of names from the sources. "Uri" in fifth place is a slightly lighter name, as is "Noam" in sixth place and "Ethan" in seventh place. In eighth place, the name "Yehuda" proves that it is not outdated in any way, and "Daniel" in ninth place claims the same. Unlike girls who boast of "Adel" - boys have no foreign name in the top ten. All the names are Hebrew for the discerning.
